Ely Day Trip

Hello Everybody!

Today I thought I would start up a new series here on The Savory Homemaker, and share with you my travels whilst we are living in the UK! The very first mini day trip we did was a small town atop a hill, Ely. Its such a pretty town, and they have the best tea room!
Ely Cathedral.

This cathedral is open everyday to the public to walk through. It is still in full use, so the whole cathedral may not be available to see at all hours of the day, during services, events, etc. The interior is SO beautiful. It is a must see when you are visiting.

On nice days, you can sit outside on the lawn and relax in the sun, or grab take away and have a picnic!
Ely Cathedral, Back Exterior.
View from the top of the west tower.

We took the west tower tour for £9 each. It is 288 steps to get to the top of the tower via spiral staircase, and you cannot beat this view! Imagine how much farther you could see if it would have been on a nice, clear day.

After we left the cathedral, we decided to go have lunch at our very first British tea room, Peacocks. If you are in Ely, you MUST go there for lunch or afternoon tea! It is by far my favorite tea room in all of the UK thus far. We ordered scones, tea and the most delicious croque monsieur you have ever tasted with ham and melted cheese on top. My mouth is watering just thinking about it!

Ely also has a very nice high street. Some of the more touristy looking shops near the cathedral actually have some really cute bits in them. They also have a delicious fudge shop that can't be missed!
We drove through a cute and tiny town called Prickwillow on our way to Ely. Of course I had to stop and snap a picture of their church. (I have a thing with old churches and must always stop to take a picture.)
We thought this old telephone box was neat, so of course I took a picture of it as well. This one is a local artists work inside and out. I love how they have taken these and turned them into various things all across the UK!

Stay tuned for more of our adventures including, Cambridge, London, Edinburgh, and Heidelberg coming hopefully soon! Have a great day everyone!
