Stocking The Freezer

Hello Lovelies!

Today is my 25th birthday! I don't know quite how I feel about this birthday, but its a milestone I guess. We are not much of anything, just going out with some friends for some mini golf, and go kart racing! It should be fun, and I'm looking forward to it!

I'm thinking about making a dark chocolate cake, with dark chocolate frosting with thin mints crumbled in between layers, and on top. It's making my mouth water just thinking about it! I have a slight obsession with Thin Mints this time of year, and I finally got my hands on a box yesterday for the first time. I'm not going to lie, or feel guilty, but the box is already gone! Between my fiance and his cousin, we demolished them! I'll post the recipe I'm using soon, I promise.

I have had a highly productive day today, and I'm pretty impressed with myself. The weather was absolutely gorgeous, sunny and 75 degrees! I spent some time outside weeding my garden beds out front, and trying to decide what I want to plant. My daisies from last year finally are coming back again, and one of my hydrangea plants is coming back as well! I'm not sure the other one made it through last year, so I may have to dig him up and find something else to put back in its spot.

I also managed to get some stocking up of the freezer done today too, which I have been meaning to do forever, and finally got to it! Here's a list of the things I put together and am going to finish up doing tomorrow:

I recently found a great post on Pinterest explaining how to put together freezer meals you can prepare ahead of time, and when your ready, take them out to thaw, and then go straight to your crock pot all day. I thought I would try this with my favorite chili recipe to see how it would turn out! I just combined all the ingredients, and put them in a Ziploc freezer bag and into my freezer they went! One bag still needs hamburger meat to go into it, but I thought I would try it both ways to see which turns out best.

Last summer I whipped up some hamburger patties and tried freezing them, and they turned out working great! I decided this year I would try to make this a staple in the freezer, and try doing different kinds of patties so we have a variety to choose from! Since I had a large amount of hamburger, that's what got made this time. I also plan to try turkey and chicken burgers in a few weeks as well!

Some other great things I like to buy in bulk and keep in the freezer wrapped individually are:

* Chicken breasts, thighs and wings. I buy a few large packages of each of these, and individually wrap each of them in saran wrap so however much I need, I can just grab and go! Some other great meats to do as well are steaks, cooked ground hamburger and turkey. They all freeze great, and are good for those nights you come home from work and really don't want to cook.

* I also make my own garlic bread as well. I just buy a french loaf, or whatever kind of bread is on sale, or sounds good. I throw some butter on both sides, and top it with a variety of different toppings, depending on what I have readily available in the cabinets. Put them in a large Ziploc bag and freeze them! Super easy, and much better for you than buying the pre-made garlic breads that tend to have a good amount of bad things for you in them.

* One of my fiance's favorite things to have in the fridge or freezer is peanut butter and honey or jelly sandwiches he can grab on his way to work to have as a snack or for lunch. This is probably the one thing we always have in the house.

* When all of the good fruits and vegetables are in season I like to buy them in bulk, blanch and freeze them. Especially towards the end of the summer, that way we can have great produce that lasts us through the winter that we usually can't find again until spring.

I hope this gave you all some inspiration if you like to make freezer meals as well! Have a great day!
